Hey all, sorry for a bit of radio silence over the last week or so.
My dad has a compress fracture in his spine. While I was at their house helping my mother and father through the doctor’s appointment with a neurologist, we started watching Ted Lasso.
That’s where I’ve been. It’s a rare thing to have something live up to the hype. Everything Everywhere All at Once did it recently. What a masterpiece of a film. I convinced my friend Damien to see Pool Kids live at Fest. It was a top tier show. Ted Lasso deserves every bit of credit it gets.
It’s edgy, sweet, kind and philosophical. It’s a successor to the Wonder Years, but with the good sense to end after 3 seasons. It’s a tough show to watch when you’re still learning to come to terms with patriarchy and its influences on your life. It’s a tough show to watch with your father, when they are going through a potential end of life emergency. It’s probably a tough show to watch with fathers anyway.
A memory I’ll cherish is seeing my father able to find joy in a sitcom in a situation that was desperate for some levity. Ted Lasso has something for almost anyone and I’ll recommend you watch it. It’s not perfect, but that makes it even better somehow.
We are hoping for a minor surgery with outpatient recovery for my father. Things are much less daunting when you know the whats and whys of it.
Really, I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know that I’m essentially taking the next month off of writing. I have to get ready for RocketCon and I have some real world obligations that I must attend to. Because the other thing that Led Tasso reinforces is that we must live our lives without regret.
We love Ted Lasso! Paul got us hooked. Spoke to your Dad and he was immensely thankful to both you and Adrianne for your help when both were in immediate need.
What a blessing to have you there and able to have the time to spend caring while he gets to a better place. Hopefully the surgery will be the ticket out of pain. ❤️❤️
You Power bait,
have been an immense help to us both (mother as well as father)! We needed help and you AND your wife stepped up and relieved a lot of my anxiety and pressure. Thank you for being there for us.
And, thanks for introducing me to Ted Lasso.....what a touching and amazing show it is!
