This project is largely for me, but I hope some people will have some fun with it. Since is the first time I’ve done this, it’s in very rudimentary form. I suspect I will refine the process as time goes on.
I started with this playlist:
It’s pretty much my top songs right now, pulled from playlists I’ve been listening to and my On Repeat from Spotify. I tried to keep it isolated to “singles.” I loaded the tracks into PubMeeple’s ranking engine. Once I had the listing, I wanted to emulate Billboard’s Hot 100.
From there, I used Google Docs to make this. I wanted to copy and paste it into Substack, but that looked awful. It lost all formatting, so I’m still working on bringing that over to this format. But I am going to keep at it and have a format that works here so I can consolidate my efforts.
That link will get you the top 40. If you click the RocketCon logo, it will give you this playlist:
Each piece of album art links to the corresponding Bandcamp release. If I couldn’t find it on Bandcamp, I pulled from Spotify. Call it nostalgia for Casey Kasem and Carson Daly, but I do miss the fun of a top 40 countdown.
Beyond that, if you have suggestions for songs I should check out, let me know. I prefer one song per artist and understand that I bounce off a lot of songs. That said, I’m always on the lookout for new artists. I’m into pretty much any genre of music. I also want your feedback, let me know if you like any of these bands or songs. Tell me what I got right and what I got wrong.
