First off, if you came to me through our makeshift Film Substack Family, I’m about to write a lot about music. But, I’m going to start my Wednesday film reviews after we get back from vacation. For the uninitiated, I see movies with a group of people every Tuesday at our local Bowtie Cinema. Our movie club has been one of my favorite things to come out of this year.
Been Sent to Jail, Without Passing Go
If you saw my board games lists last year, that’s probably not going to happen this year. Adrianne and I are going on the Dice Tower Cruise for the third year in a row. I might pop out a top 25 or my new favorites this year. That’s for a different day, I’ll think about it after a week of gaming. I didn’t play as many board games this year, but here are my end of the year stats (save NYE, which will feature some gaming):
Rock Hard 2024
I’m going to spend today and tomorrow compiling my favorite live shows of this year, my favorite songs this year, my favorite albums this year, my favorite EPs this year and my favorite bands I’ve discovered this year. It was a solid year for music and I can’t wait to share my lists and see yours as well. I will have those publish next week while I’m on the cruise.
Here’s my Spotify stats, I know they suck as a company:
I Can See For Miles and Miles
I’m about to come to a close on my second full year on Substack. I think my time here has really helped me improve as a writer and an editor. I wanted to take a moment to thank the people who’ve been along for the journey.
When I started this I was burned out from working a lifetime of work in 20ish years. Angry and sad about the state of the working class in the USA and the world at large. I am still those things, but I’ve gotten a much better handle on them. The future is uncertain, but it always is.
It looks like we’re in for tough sledding but what has helped me so much is building community. Get involved as much as you can, it won’t just save your life it will save the lives of those around you. Anyway, I hope next year is as good for you all as it can be and I’m glad we get to experience it, in some way, together.
