Wow, I’m batting a thousand on coming back from vacation sick. My poor wife did not agree to being the “domestic engineer” and yet it’s fallen to her frequently when we get back from out of town. I bounced back much quicker this time, but Monday was hairy.
I intend to recap the Dice Tower Cruise, not everything in life is bleak. I also intend to dig into current events, not so much the Barbie hullabaloo but maybe a bit on how right wing ideology can weaponize valid criticism. Taylor Swift has been a huge talking point, especially since her relationship with Travis Kelce has gone public. There’s a lot to digest there and Swift is a dangerous topic because of it.
But I do want some feedback, either via this poll, email or comments.
I’d like to continue doing this, with a more structured format. I am of a mind to split off the media reviews to their own thing, unless you all prefer the total package. I also wouldn’t want to ask the people that have been supporting me to have to split that support to multiple channels.
Thankfully, Substack has pulled back on their support of Nazi pages. That really put me into an ideological bind. Corporations still only care about one thing and it isn’t you or me.
Follow up question:
I’m personally leaning toward 3 - One day of personal essays, one day of commentary and a weekly media recap on Fridays.
Starting in March, I’m also going to turn on donations. I don’t expect any nor will I ever paywall anything. But there is a real, financial toll the world asks of us and I have to rise to meet it. I would love for this to be my profession, but throughout history writing has never been a viable career. Why change that now?
March is quickly approaching and with it the end of my mid-life gap year. One other thing, even if you aren’t in a position to donate (and I understand, trust me), I would ask that you help spread the word if you find value here. I’ve seen this grow pretty steadily over the last year and it’s been exciting. I’d love to keep this going and growing, but I do need help.
Thanks again to all of you who read this and who engage with me on and off line. If there’s anything else feedback wise you’d like to give me for the overall format, structure or content, please don’t hold back.
